A Bit About Us

Why We Started

At 20 years old, I became a first-time dog dad—and like many, I was completely unprepared for the realities of dog ownership. I made every mistake in the book, often more than once. But as a Marine, I fell back on the one thing I knew could lead to improvement: training.

The military had exposed me to some of the best instructors and most effective teaching methods I’d ever encountered. So naturally, I assumed I could find something similar in the dog training world. But instead, all I came across were sales pitches for board and train programs that promised unrealistic results in impossibly short timeframes. I couldn’t shake the feeling that these programs were more focused on profit than on building a lasting relationship between me and my dog.

That realization was the spark.

After realizing that these “trainers” only cared about a paycheck and not my relationship or capabilities with my dog, I set out to learn how to teach my dog and myself, a path I still follow today.

How We Started

Once I realized how nuanced and layered dog training truly was, I became obsessed with learning everything I could—reading, watching, and studying anything related to dogs and behavior. Eventually, it hit me: I wanted to become the trainer I could never find.

So, I took a leap of faith. I left the Marine Corps and committed to pursuing dog training with everything I had. After graduating from the Master Dog Trainer Program at Highland Canine School for Dog Trainers, I quickly realized that a formal education is just the beginning. True mastery comes from hands-on experience, constant growth, and a relentless drive to do right by the dogs—and their people.

Our Mission

When we launched Homegrown Canine Training LLC, the goal was simple: provide the kind of training we wish we had found—real solutions, tailored support, and honesty above all else.

Our programs are built around the needs of our clients, not around profit margins. Coming from a family where your word is everything, we stand by our integrity. We will never compromise our name for a dollar. That’s why we prioritize not only training your dog but also educating and empowering you to become a confident, capable handler. Because great dogs deserve great leadership—and that starts with you.
